What's the Difference?
Central HVAC: A single system - usually a furnace + central AC or a heat pump - that conditions air in one place and distributes it throughout the home via ductwork. One thermostat, one zone.
Mini-split (ductless): A system with an outdoor compressor/condenser connected to one or more indoor air-handling units (heads) mounted on walls or ceilings. No ductwork required. Each indoor unit can be controlled independently.
